The Marvelous Margolis Rescue – May 2025

Lab Love Liberty Tour 2025

Event Date: May, 2025

Executive Director Lori Cohen and Dr. Charu Chandrasekera were on hand to welcome two  beagles from a laboratory testing facility in Canada.

The Beagle Alliance gets their first two Beagles from a Canadian Testing Facility

The Beagle Alliance has been working for over three years to advocate for the release of animals from testing facilities in Canada. During this time, we have been privileged to help place over 65 beagles from U.S. facilities into loving homes.

This past weekend we were blessed to have the very first two beagles released from a Canadian testing facility into our care. These two sweet beagles can now go on to live the lives they deserve in safety, love and freedom. It is our greatest hope that this is just the beginning!

In 2023, over 16,000 dogs were used in Canadian testing facilities.

We believe that many of them could go from Lab to Love and we are here to help them do just that.

It is with our deepest gratitude to The Eric S. Margolis Foundation who helped us begin our mission in Canada and who continues to journey along side of us.

Thank you also to every single supporter, donor, foster, adopter, volunteer and all of the generous foundations who are constantly cheering us on in the incredible mission to save lives and make change.

Dr. Charu Chandrasekera

An honour and a blessing to have had Dr. Charu Chandrasekera travel with Executive Director Lori Cohen to be with us during our first rescue of beagles from a Canadian testing facility!

Dr. Charu Chandrasekera, founder and executive director of the Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods, was Canada’s only centre dedicated exclusively to animal-free science, transforming biomedical research, education, and chemical safety testing through 21st-century science, innovation, and ethics. Once an animal researcher herself, she has become a leading voice in the global movement toward non-animal methodologies, blending her expertise in science policy with her passion for advancing humane and innovative scientific practices.

The Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods has closed it’s doors because of a lack of funding. We encourage dedicated and long-term funding to the CCAAM and recognition as the national hub for developing, validating, and promoting NAMs. The CCAAM has received no public funding to date and because of this, has recently shut down.

Please consider speaking with your MP about animal free science. These innovative methods have already proven to be more effective for humans, less expensive - and of course would save the lives of so many animals.
