Ontario Bans Invasive Testing on Dogs and Cats!

Airdrie yard becomes gateway to freedom for 14 rescued beagles

There are days in advocacy work that feel like trying to move a mountain with a teaspoon. And then there are days like today. Days that remind us mountains do move.

Today marks a precedent-setting moment in Canada.

As of May 2026, Ontario has passed landmark legislation through Bill 75 to ban invasive scientific research and testing on pet cats and dogs.

One province, ONE BEAGLE AT A TIME!

A massive step.

And still, so much work to be done.

For those of us who have looked into the eyes of former research dogs, this moment carries weight that is hard to describe. We know the fear and the hesitant first tail wag. The confusion over grass, toys, couches, kindness. It is deeply personal.

AND yet, we have so much gratitude for the people behind the change and the dogs who have gone from LAB to LOVE and proven that their freedom is worth every hard day.

There is work to be done and animals to be placed into loving homes and you an be sure that The Beagle Alliance will be front and centre – FOR THE ANIMALS.

Systems can change when enough people refuse to look away. If the system allows, then the system is what must be challenged. Today is evidence that Canada is moving in the right direction.

To every single person who made a phone call, sent an email, signed a petition, shared a post, attended a rally, or spoke up when it felt uncomfortable: THANKYOU.

Thank you to Premier Doug Ford for listening and taking action.

Thank you to Animal Justice, Animal Alliance of Canada, and Humane Canada for continuing to advocate for legislative change and accountability.

And thank you to the whistleblowers who chose courage over silence.

The road ahead stretches far beyond Ontario. Province by province, conversation by conversation, law by law, we continue the work to end invasive testing on cats and dogs across Canada.

Tonight, though, there is space to celebrate.

Somewhere in the future, because of what happened today, a dog will never know what a laboratory looks like.

That matters.

Please consider speaking with your MP about animal free science. These innovative methods have already proven to be more effective for humans, less expensive - and of course would save the lives of so many animals.
