Canadian Animal Law Conference 2024

Lori Cohen, Executive Director of The Beagle Alliance, has been asked to speak for the third year at this most important annual conference centred around building a better legal system for animals in this country.
Animal welfare lawyers, scholars, advocates, and students will join together to learn, reflect, and collaborate at this MUCH ANTICIPATED weekend created and hosted by Animal Justice. The Beagle Alliance is also very proud to be a sponsor.
This panel will focus on the lives of animals used in experiments, and the push to end animal research. Three insightful presentations will offer a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of advocating for animals in research and the ongoing pursuit of more humane and ethical scientific practices.
Rachelle Hansen of Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary will share the experience of working with institutions to bring monkeys out of research into retirement, including the legal, governmental, medical, and welfare elements of the process, and sharing stories and milestones of the retired monkeys in their development and socialization beyond lab life.
Lori Cohen, from The Beagle Alliance, will explore the transformative power of the human-dog relationship in reshaping attitudes towards animal research, emphasizing legal and ethical considerations.
Charu Chandrasekera will discuss her pioneering work to develop animal-free research models, and her vision for a Canada free from harmful animal testing.
