In 2024, the Beagle Alliance forged ahead as Canada’s leading rescue and advocacy organization dedicated to supporting animals involved in research. Our journey during this year has been marked by incredible milestones, heartwarming stories, and a strengthened commitment to making a difference. From rescuing beagles from foreign shores to embarking on eye-opening advocacy tours, every step has been paved with passion and unity for our furry friends and their welfare.
January 2024 began with an inspiring feat as we successfully rehomed two former research beagles from South Korea, finding them loving families in sunny California. This initial triumph set a hopeful tone for the rest of the year.
In February, we initiated the "Love Letter to Your Dog" campaign, inviting heartfelt tributes from the public. The response was overwhelming, with beautifully written letters pouring in from across the nation, including from a charming elementary school in rural Manitoba. This campaign not only highlighted the deep bond we share with our canine companions but also allowed us to connect with future lawmakers, scientists, teachers, and animal advocates.
"An incredible display of the love we have in this country for the dogs in our lives."
Our mission to save and rehome research animals didn't stop there. In 2024, we also launched the ambitious "Dogs Know No Borders: Lab to Love Rescue Tour," which took us over 5,000 kilometers from the United States to Western Canada. Using our rescue vans, we transported ten joyful beagles eagerly wagging their tails in anticipation of meeting their new families. Volunteers, fosters, and passionate supporters, including media partners, joined us on this epic journey.
As we gazed into the trusting eyes of these ten furry souls, we were filled with happiness knowing that their futures were bright and free from harm.
Inspiring community spirit and unity, the Beagle Alliance hosted its first-ever Beagle Benefit in 2024. This event was a resounding success, bringing together animal lovers from different walks of life to celebrate and support our mutual cause—unconditional love for dogs and animals at large.
Come summer, we lifted our spirits and stretched our muscles with Beagle Yoga. This unique event was attended by numerous supporters eager to meet our rescue dogs who had found their forever homes in Manitoba. With ample shade, refreshing water, and tails wagging joyously, you could feel the collective breath of our community relaxing into the sweet moments shared with these resilient beagles.
The unwavering dedication of our supporters shone brilliantly throughout 2024. A highlight was our vibrant Beagle Mania concert, featuring live music and festivities that echoed the shared aspiration to make meaningful change for animals across Canada. Santa even made a special appearance twice in December, crafting memories that would last a lifetime and laying the foundation for positive changes in the coming year.
In the latter part of 2024, we welcomed 16 more former research beagles into our family, broadening our reach and committing to creating lasting memories and bonds. Through our rescue partners, corporate allies, and frontline heroes, we witnessed incredible acts of kindness making all this possible. It wasn’t just these dogs who were transformed; our lives and the lives of countless supporters were changed forever through this shared mission.
"We didn't just see the dogs adopted, but we were blessed ourselves to be adopted into the hearts of people who want to make a difference for animals."
Continuing our advocacy, we forged ahead with initiatives like the "Lab Letter Campaign," working tirelessly to foster trust with research facilities so more dogs could find their way to loving homes. Our message resonated strongly at the Canadian Animal Law Conference, where we passionately introduced our "Dogs as a Gateway for Change" campaign. We believe deeply in inspiring policy changes through the profound love many Canadians share for their pets and animals in research.
2024 also brought forth moments of advocacy on the political stage. When news broke about the closure of the Canadian Center for Alternatives to Animal Methods, we, alongside our advocacy partners, rallied urgently to discuss crucial funding for this pivotal organization with government officials. We remain committed to these conversations as we look ahead to 2025.
Reflecting on the year, we are proud to have changed the lives of 35 beagles. However, it is our lives, and the lives of all those involved, that have been enriched by their presence. As we prepare for 2025, we hold these experiences close and build on the generosity, passion, and love so abundant in our community.
"We will etch the images of these faces into our hearts. Thanks to your generosity and passion, we plan to see 50 more beautiful faces."
The journey through 2024 has been one of heartwarming success stories, community-driven initiatives, and unwavering advocacy for animals in need. As we turn the page to 2025, the Beagle Alliance is ready to set forth with renewed vigor, gratitude, and an expanded vision. Our village is real, and together, we make each step of the journey worthwhile. Thank you for being a part of this transformational year with us and our furry companions.
Join us again as we strive for greater impact in the coming year: because every beagle deserves a loving home and every advocate deserves to see their efforts make a real change.
