Operation LAB to LOVE – April 2026
Event Date: April 13-17, 2026
Operation Lab to Love: Not a Rescue – A Mission
I’m Lori Cohen, Executive Director and Founder of the Beagle Alliance, and I have something extraordinary to share.
This April, five former research beagles will take their first steps into something completely new. Grass under their paws, couches they’ve never seen before, and hands that reach out with love.
They are not being “rescued.”
We’re choosing our words carefully here, because words shape how we see the world. This is not a rescue.
This is a mission.
This is an operation.
This is collaboration.
This is How Change Actually Happens
For years, our incredible partners at Kindness Ranch Sanctuary have been doing the slow, patient, deeply intentional work of building relationships with research facilities – with open dialogue and a shared desire to find a better way forward.
Change like this doesn’t happen overnight. It’s not a dramatic raid or a last-minute save. It’s built conversation by conversation, handshake by handshake, until one day… a door opens, cages open.
And this April – through that door, five beagles will see the rest of their lives.
That is what long-term change looks like. It’s steady. It’s collaborative. It’s rooted in the belief that even in the most unlikely places, common ground can be found.
From Lab to Love
These dogs are stepping into a world where love and choice will be brand new.
A vacuum cleaner might feel like a monster.
A staircase might look like a mountain.
A human voice, soft and kind, might still take time to trust.
But here’s what we know about beagles: they are resilient in ways that feel almost miraculous. Give them patience, give them safety, give them time… and they bloom.
They become who they were meant to be.
A Cross-Border Collaboration of Compassion
This mission is only possible because of partnership.
Kindness Ranch Sanctuary, laying the groundwork and introducing them into the world.
BARC’s Rescue in Calgary, our soft landing at home in Canada.
And our community, standing ready to welcome them into homes where their stories can begin again.
With us on every journey, Keeper and Kin, walking the fosters and the dogs through the process of transformation.
This is what happens when people choose to link arms across borders, organizations, and belief systems.
Join the Mission
This April, we’re inviting you to be part of something bigger than a single moment.
Follow the journey.
Celebrate the small wins.
Share their stories.
Stand with us as we continue to build bridges that lead more dogs out of labs and into loving arms.
Because this isn’t the end goal.
It’s a glimpse of what’s possible.
Five beagles.
Five new beginnings.
One mission that’s just getting started.

Please consider speaking with your MP about animal free science. These innovative methods have already proven to be more effective for humans, less expensive - and of course would save the lives of so many animals.
