Canadian Government Asking for Public Feedback about Toxicity Testing on Animals

Toxicity Testing on Animals

Canadian Government Asking for Public Feedback about Toxicity Testing on Animals

The Beagle Alliance is both a rescue and an advocacy organization. It is a part of our mission to advocate for non-animal use in science.

The Canadian government has asked for feedback from the public about toxicity testing and the use of animals. We do not take this “ask” lightly.

DEADLINE: January 29, 2024

Let’s be a little bit louder and a little bit bolder in our efforts to be a voice for the animals in Canada.

Here is the link to read the government’s NOTICE OF INTENT.

  • Allocate dedicated funding for New Approach Methods (NAM’s) with immediate funding to the Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods (CCAAM) to expand their Canadian efforts as the national hub. As well, incentives for facilities scientists who are moving away from animal use – this could take the form of government investment that supports both training and the development of infrastructure needed to develop, validate, and promote. The Government of Canada must support the transition through a nationwide campaign that educates about the use of animals in Canadian animal-based science.
  • Defined Timeline – The 2035 timeline should be reinforced, with defined goals and milestones to be accomplished in 3-5 year periods of time with ultimate replacement by or soon after 2035.
  • Transparency – As taxpayers, Canadians should know what species are being used for toxicity testing, how many, in what way and in which publicly funded institutions.
  • Re-homing – It is inhumane to kill animals who could live years after use in science. It is of public’s interest to know which institutions have an adoption policy and how many eligible animals are re-homed and from which publicly funded institutions.

Thank you for your care, your time and your voice.
