Email your response to: erhsdgeneral-dssergenerale@hc-sc.gc.ca and COPIES to: Health Minister – hcminister.ministresc@hc-sc.gc.ca Environment Minister – ministre-minister@ec.gc.ca Finance Minister – chrystia.freeland@fin.gc.ca Prime Minister – justin.trudeau@parl.gc.ca ------- Thank you for your work to reduce and replace the use of vertebrate animals in testing and thank you for asking for public feedback. This Draft Strategy is an important step in reducing animal harm and putting Canada on track to be a leader in innovative animal free science. To reach this objective, we as a country must invest in non-animal methods. We encourage dedicated and long-term funding to the Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods (CCAAM) and recognition as the national hub for developing, validating, and promoting NAMs. The CCAAM has received no public funding to date and because of this, has recently shut down. Please consider: 1. A plan to accelerate the regulatory acceptance of animal-free methods in toxicity testing. 2. A plan to support, regulate and encourage the release of eligible animals after study to experienced, reputable and recognized organizations in Canada, such as The Beagle Alliance. 3. Allocating funding to individuals and organizations who can and will move Canada towards the accepted use of animal free science. Thank you again for requesting feedback.
