SUMMARY:Dog Sledding: A Look at Life Beyond the Brochure
DESCRIPTION:WATCH VIDEO OF THE TOWN HALL HERE\n \n \n \n \n \n Dog Sledding: A Look at Life Beyond the Brochure\nJoin The Beagle Alliance in welcoming long time animal advocates\, Nicole Sapalovski\, from The Animal Alliance of Canada\, along with Rhea Akler\, who have been involved with the Dog Sledding campaign since 2018. They\, along with a small team of advocates have worked tirelessly over the years to spread awareness and make a difference for these animals in Canada. \n“It’s evolved from protests to outreach\, social media campaigns\, rescue work from ACTUAL dog sledding operations as well as the exposing of those operations. \nWe have largely done advocacy in Ontario and Quebec\, and are currently in the process of re-evaluating the campaign to begin taking a deeper look at legislation\, consulting with politicians\, legal experts and advocates in order to learn more about how we can be the most effective and impactful as possible.”

SUMMARY:The Future of Animal Advocacy
DESCRIPTION:SEE OUR TOWN HALL HERE\n \n \n \n \n \n One young person’s story and how she is already making a difference for animals in Canada.\n  \nAileen Jun (in her own words)\nI’m a grade twelve high school student in Waterloo\, Ontario. After I adopted my first dog and cat\, I became very interested in animal rights. \nAs someone very passionate about animal advocacy\, I wanted to share my passion through the power of social media. I created an advocacy and awareness account called @Pawesitivee on Instagram. Apart from that\, I volunteer at the Toronto Cat Rescue where I perform in-store tasks and go in at various times to take photos and write bios to help the cats get adopted sooner. \nI’m also a volunteer at Eight Paws Dog Rescue\, where I help with social media work and format bios. This organization takes dogs from the streets of South Korea and gives them a second chance here. This organization hits home for me as I’m Korean; volunteering with this organization made me sad to see how badly some of the traditional dogs (Jindos) are treated; but it’s also an opportunity to help them. \nI recently began a small business on Etsy where I sell self-illustrated stickers and donate 10% of the proceeds to an animal welfare organization. Living with a dog and a cat while seeing similar animals get abused on the streets is an eye-opening experience and I hope to introduce others to a positive animal perspective. \nI want to pursue a career in law where I can generate bigger changes for the unspoken victims of our world. \n \n Register Today!

SUMMARY:Finding Homes After Study!
DESCRIPTION:Cruelty Free International’s Monica Engebretson looks at the U.S. Companion Animal Release from Experiments (CARE) Act of 2023\nThis year public concern for the plight of animals used in laboratories continued to be reflected in U.S. state legislation and one of the most popular issues considered was the adoption of animals previously used in laboratories. Fifteen states already have post-research adoption laws and this year\, seven state bills were introduced on this issue. \nWhile we await the completion of the (CCAC) Canadian Council on Animal Care’s draft in which re-homing eligible animals from Canadian testing facilities would be highly recommended\, let’s look at what has already been done next door! \nJOIN US in speaking with Monica @crueltyfreeintl to discuss re-homing and how we can help advocating for animals in laboratories in Canada and abroad! \n \n SEE OUR TOWN HALL HERE

DESCRIPTION:SEE OUR TOWN HALL HERE\n \n \n \n \n \n A Guide to Having an Animal Testing Survivor in your Home!\nJoin us in discussing what it is like to have a traumatized dog in your home. We have experienced fosters and adopters who are able to share so much – and we may even have a few beagle guest appearances. The Beagle Alliance team will share our resources also\, but the real story is the experience of the very people who help us save lives and witness the progress of these beautiful souls. \nBe prepared to feel confident that you will know what to do and will have a support system when fostering or adopting an animal from testing or who has had any kind of trauma. \nBe prepared to feel and know how worthy it is to save an animal’s life!

SUMMARY:Justify: Supporting Current and Former Lab Workers
DESCRIPTION:You can see our Town Hall here\n \n \n \n \n \n Join The Beagle Alliance while we have a very open discussion on what it looks like to support former lab workers. The past\, the present and the future. The trauma\, healing and moving forward. \nIf we do not come together without judgment\, no change will ever be made. \nMeet our Guest Speakers\nMaddie Krasno\nDuring her undergraduate education\, Maddie worked at UW-Madison’s Harlow Primate Research Laboratory and was later diagnosed with PTSD as a result. Maddie hopes JUSTIFY will become the community she wishes she had when she left the primate lab in 2013. Maddie holds a master’s degree in Humane Education. \nMallory Cormier\nMallory holds a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and has worked in the veterinary field for over 10 years. After her experience working inside animal labs\, Mallory founded Save the Buns\, Inc. a nonprofit organization providing sanctuary and adoption to rabbits used in animal testing. \nLindsay Oliver\nLindsay has worked inside several animal research facilities and spent over a decade helping whistleblowers share their stories. She’s a certified compassion fatigue professional and is passionate about helping others succeed and avoid burnout. \n  \nWe are not here to justify animal experimentation. JUSTIFY is a community that supports current and former lab workers and advocates for a world where science exists without causing harm to animals or humans.

SUMMARY:Ellie Hansen - Stronger Together: Role of Public Protest to End Dog Research
DESCRIPTION:SEE OUR TOWN HALL HERE\n \n \n \n \n \n We will be discussing specific protests which have brought about change for dogs used in vivisection\, from early history to present day\, and how we can use these examples to inspire us to work together to be a voice for dogs in research. \nEllie Hansen is an award-winning writer\, animal advocate. and founder and CEO of Lovable Pets\, Inc.\, a holistic pet supply company located in Billings\, MT. She holds a B.A. degree in Mass Communications and Public Relations from Bloomsburg University. Ellie’s published works include two books and magazine articles focusing on profound human relationships with dogs. \nIn 2015\, Ellie adopted two beagles who were used for much of their lives for pharmaceutical research in undisclosed U.S. laboratories. Both dogs were severely traumatized and needed extensive rehabilitation to acclimatize to their new lives outside the laboratory. Witnessing their resilience and uncovering the facts about dogs used for research led Ellie to write her second book Laboratory Dogs Rescued: From Test Subjects to Beloved Companions (2021\, McFarland & Company Inc. Publishers). Ellie is also the producer and host of the Dog Research Exposed Podcast dedicated to disseminating information related to ending this cruel and outdated practice of using dogs in chemical and biomedical research worldwide.
